There are innumerable entertainment options for kids and parents these days. Many of them, however, are not very interactive or are very cost prohibitive. One activity that has been around for years, and is still a favorite is fishing. It is an interactive option for adults and children to do together and both will enjoy it.
One good thing about fishing is that once you have the fishing tackle and other supplies, it may not be necessary to buy much more, unless you use live bait when fishing. So, unlike many other activities that cost each time you do them, fishing does not have to be one of those. The equipment purchased for fishing does not have to break the bank either.
Fishing tackle for children can be purchased at about any big box store or even sporting goods stores. Most of the stores will offer poles, lures and tackle boxes for kids. These will range from low end to higher end in price. Evaluate what type of fishing you will be doing, as well as how often and the ages of the kids before purchasing equipment.
When looking to buy a pole, look for one that will fit the size of the child, be easy to reel and one that is user friendly for the child. There are some that work on a bobber and others that will allow a spinning lure for continuous reeling. Younger children should start with a beginner pole and bobber to make things easier on them and the adult.
Older children could graduate up to a spinning reel and lure, which will keep them occupied casting and reeling in each time. It is a great time to teach them methods and get them to practice their skills. Older children may also enjoy learning how to tie their own lures on and then taking the fish off of the hook when they catch one.
Other types of fishing tackle include tackle boxes and lures. Children seem to really enjoy having their own tackle box. There are boxes that are decorated with cartoon characters for younger kids, and then more mature boxes as the kids get older. Filling it with their own lures, bobbers and hooks can personalize the adventure for them even more.
Fishing equipment can last for years if it is well cared for and stored properly. This is a good chore to teach the kids as well. Learning how to properly store your rod and reel can save money and time the next time you want to go out and fish. Once you have what you need, fishing can be a great family activity.
